From June 11-17, there were reports of nine robberies14 burglaries12 assaults or batteries, one weapon-involved call and no sexual assaults, according to CrimeMapping.com. There were also 20 stolen vehicles14 disturbances and 39 auto break-ins or thefts from vehicles reported. Significant incidents reported by the University of California Police Department (UCPD) included two burglaries. These numbers are subject to change. Click the links for the latest numbers. The following items represent a sampling of calls, and times may be approximate; incidents that took place during a range of time are listed by the beginning of that time period.

Thursday, June 11

The BART police received a report of a bike theft at Ashby BART between 9:10 p.m. Wednesday and 12:30 a.m. Thursday. The BMX bicycle had been secured with a cable lock.


There were two disturbance calls, at 12:55 a.m. in the 1200 block of University Avenue, and at 7 a.m. in the 3000 block of Adeline Street.

UCPD responded to a burglary at 7:42 a.m. at North Gate Hall.

Two vehicles were stolen, at 4 p.m. in the 2000 block of Carleton Street, and at 7 p.m. in the 1300 block of Bonita Avenue.

There was a home burglary at 9 p.m. in the 1200 block of University.

Friday, June 12

There were two robberies, at 4:04 a.m. in the 1800 block of Harmon Street, and at 10:08 p.m. in the 2600 block of Warring Street.

There were two felony assaults or batteries, at 10:50 a.m. at Seventh and Page streets, and at 7:42 p.m. at Gilman Street and West Frontage Road.


There were three disturbance calls: at 11:50 a.m. in the 2000 block of Center Street; at 10:40 p.m. in the 1100 block of Hearst Avenue; and at 11:28 p.m. in the 1300 block of Ninth Street.

Someone reportedly brandished a weapon at 3:35 p.m. in the 1900 block of Oregon Street.

Three vehicles were stolen: at 5 p.m. in the 1200 block of Haskell Street; at 6:45 p.m. in the 800 block of Contra Costa Avenue; and at 9 p.m. in the 1400 block of 67th Street.

Via the BART Police: A female of unknown age said a man approached her at the ticket machines at Ashby BART at about 5:15 p.m. and asked for spare change: “When the victim opened her purse to get some money, the suspect snatched $10 from her wallet and ran to the platform.” The man boarded a Millbrae-bound train and officers could not find him. The investigating officer developed a possible suspect, based on the suspect description and behavior. The investigation continues.

There was a commercial burglary at 8:53 p.m. in the 1300 block of San Pablo Avenue.

Saturday, June 13


There were three disturbance calls: at 12:30 a.m. in the 2400 block of Piedmont Avenue; at 1:38 a.m. at Ninth and Camelia streets; and at 9:20 a.m. in the 2800 block of Claremont Boulevard.

There were four home burglaries: at noon in the 1600 block of Harmon; at 6 p.m. in the 700 block of Hilldale Avenue; at 8 p.m. in the 2700 block of Channing Way; and at 8:15 p.m. at Fourth Street and Allston Way.

Three vehicles were stolen: at 5 p.m. in the 1600 block of Bancroft Way; at 10 p.m. in the 1900 block of Vine Street; and at 10 p.m. at an unlisted location.

According to the BART Police: An officer detained a woman at Ashby BART at about 5:40 p.m. on suspicion of possessing an open container of alcohol, and found her to be too intoxicated to care for herself. The officer also discovered that the woman had a $5,000 arrest warrant for public intoxication held by the Berkeley Police, and tried to take her into custody. A struggle ensued: “The officer eventually controlled the subject by way of a physical control hold, and placed her in handcuffs.” The woman was booked into the county jail for the warrant, and on suspicion of resisting arrest and (petty theft) probation violation. No injuries were reported.

Sunday, June 14

There was a commercial burglary at 3 a.m. in the 1700 block of Alcatraz Avenue.

Five vehicles were stolen: at noon at Allston Way and California Street; at 2 p.m. in the 800 block of Shattuck Avenue; at 5 p.m. in the 2700 block of Hearst Avenue; at 6 p.m. in the 1900 block of Russell Street; and at 10 p.m. in the 2900 block of Harper Street.

There was a home burglary at 2:10 p.m. in the 1300 block of Peralta Avenue.

There was a disturbance at 2:49 p.m. in the 1700 block of Derby Street.

Police responded to the sound of possible gunfire around 9:45 p.m. in South Berkeley. Officers found no indication of a shooting, and spoke to residents who said they had seen fireworks.

There were two robberies, at 11 p.m. at University and Fifth Street, and at 11:53 p.m. in the 2900 block of Telegraph Avenue.

Monday, June 15

There was a robbery at 12:47 a.m. in the 2100 block of Kittredge Street. Police arrested Joel Jensen, 36, in connection with the case.

There were two disturbance calls, at 10:02 a.m. in the 1700 block of University, and at 6:58 p.m. in the 1400 block of Josephine Street.

Four vehicles were stolen: at 11 a.m. in the 2100 block of Seventh Street; at 6 p.m. in the 1300 block of 67th Street; at 6 p.m. in the 1400 block of Cornell Avenue; and at 9 p.m. in the 2500 block of Dana Street.

UCPD responded to a burglary in the Foothill parking lot at 12:41 p.m. Someone stole copper wire from an underground vault.

Police received multiple reports about possible gunfire at about 9:45 p.m. Police identified the noise as fireworks downtown, said Officer Jennifer Coats, Berkeley Police spokeswoman.

Tuesday, June 16

Two vehicles were stolen, at 12:01 a.m. in the 2900 block of Channing Way, and at 8 p.m. in the 2300 block of Webster Street.

Police received calls about possible gunfire, 5-7 shots, in southwest Berkeley at 12:06 a.m., according to Officer Byron White, a Berkeley Police spokesman. Calls came in from the area of Harmon and King; Stanford; Alcatraz and Baker; 63rd in Oakland; 60th and Herzog; the 2300 block of Valley Street; and the 900 block of Grace in Oakland. Officers searched the areas but did not locate any victims or shell casings, White said. At least six officers handled the calls, according to records.

There were three commercial burglaries: at 12:24 a.m. in the 2500 block of Durant Avenue; at 6:30 p.m. in the 2200 block of Fifth Street; and at 9:30 p.m. in the 2400 block of Sacramento Street.

A fifth-floor balcony at an apartment complex in downtown Berkeley collapsed at Library Gardens, sending six students to their deaths and injuring seven others critically. Read complete coverage on Berkeleyside.

There was a robbery at 8:41 p.m. in the 2100 block of Allston Way.

BART responded to Ashby Station at 9:35 p.m. for a report of a man creating a disturbance on a Richmond-bound train. The train was intercepted at Ashby and the man was determined to be too intoxicated to care for himself. He was placed under arrest on suspicion of public intoxication and booked at the Glenn Dyer Jail.

There was a felony assault or battery at 10:44 p.m. at Center Street and Shattuck Avenue.

Police responded to a another series of reports regarding the sound of possible gunshots in Berkeley. According to White, the first call came in shortly before 10:40 p.m. regarding 5-7 shots near Ashby BART. BART Police officers in the area, said White, found it clear, and said they did not hear anything. At 11:06 p.m., police received a report about 10 shots fired near San Pablo Park; responding units determined that it was probably fireworks. Then, at 11:46 p.m., police received reports about 6-10 shots fired near the 100 block of Delaware; at Delaware and Virginia; in the 1300 block of Delaware; at Kains and Virginia; in the 1600 block of San Pablo Avenue; and in the 1400 block of Cornell. Police responded but determined that the sound had likely been fireworks.

Wednesday, June 17

There was a commercial burglary at 12:40 a.m. in the 900 block of Dwight Way.

There were three robberies: at 2:15 a.m. in the 3100 block of King Street; at 2:05 p.m. in the 1600 block of 63rd Street; and at 6:09 p.m. in the 2100 block of Shattuck Avenue.

There were three disturbance calls: at 3 a.m. in the 1100 block of Eighth Street; at 3:50 p.m. at an unlisted location; and at 11:21 p.m. in the 2100 block of Kittredge Street.

There were two home burglaries: at 11 a.m. in the 2800 block of Milvia Street, and at 2:30 p.m. at an unlisted location.

A vehicle was stolen at 2 p.m. in the 1500 block of Fairview Street.

Wednesday at about 4:40 p.m., police arrested a 27-year-old man on a warrant for a robbery on Valentine’s Day at 6:47 a.m. in the 2800 block of Adeline Street. He is no longer in custody and charges do not appear to have been filed, according to the online records available from Alameda County.
