The third annual Uncharted Ideas Festival opens Friday morning in downtown Berkeley.
The program is, we think, the best yet. But, as the festival’s organizers, we concede we are biased. Read what the Bay Area News Group, SFWeekly, Occupy.com, California Magazine, and J-Weekly have written about the festival for a more impartial perspectives.
Recently added speakers and sessions include the San Francisco Chronicle’s urban design critic John King, Ethio-American singer-songwriter Meklit, and bestselling cookbook author Alice Medrich. (See the full program and schedule.)
Those who have registered simply need to pick up their badges and goody bags at the Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse at 2020 Addison St., starting from 8 a.m. on Friday Oct. 16 or Saturday Oct. 17 (coffee and snacks courtesy of Whole Foods will be on hand to help the more blurry-eyed among us!).
If you haven’t got a ticket there’s still time to buy one now; or if you favor spontaneity, show up on Friday or Saturday morning and you can register at the door.
If you’re joining us, be sure to download the free Uncharted 2015 app (available at app stores), which includes the full schedule, speaker bios, and opportunity to share the experience with fellow attendees.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank, once again, our wonderful partners, without whom the festival would not be possible: Autodesk; Cloudera; Wareham Development; DeYoe Wealth Management; Jetton Construction; North Berkeley Investment Partners; The Grubb Company; Panoramic Interests; TMG Partners; 2000 Center Street LLC; Downtown Berkeley Association; UC Berkeley; WeWork; APS Wines; Ben & Jerry’s; Drake’s Brewing Company; Vignette Wine Country Soda; Tigerlily; Whole Foods; Diablo Magazine and KQED.
And a shout-out to Books Inc. who will be hosting the festival’s popup bookstore — designed by the supremely creative Castro Valley-based Restore & Rework — in the lobby of the Freight; to Berkeley Path Wanderers who will be leading festivalgoers on a stroll from the last session on Friday afternoon to the Uncharted Party at UC Berkeley’s Alumni House.
Speaking of the party… our partner for the reception this year is The Grubb Company, and features food catered by Whole Foods — fresh-grilled fish tacos, vegetable skewers, cheese and charcuterie and desserts. Tigerlily Bar will be on hand to serve two signature festival cocktails — the Uncharted and the Incognito — as well as wines from APS Wine & Spirits, bottled beer from Drake’s Brewing Co., and wine country sodas from Vignette. Live music for dancing on the beautiful leafy patio is by Les Gwans Jupons.
The festival is a production of Berkeleyside and one of the three revenue pillars that supports the independent news site, along with advertising and membership.
