Bike lane opens in Berkeley by near-fatal crash site; charges filed against driver, who police say was high

The city of Berkeley unveiled a new bike lane Thursday near the intersection where a woman on her bike was dragged and nearly killed during a crash in February. Last week, the motorist in that collision was charged with driving under the influence of drugs and causing great bodily injury. According to the police report, acquired by Berkeleyside through a Public Records Act request, Haynes had bought medical marijuana from a cannabis dispensary shortly before the crash. Chilling details from that report are here.
