Today, Berkeley joins Los Angeles as only the second city in the nation to provide specific civil recourse for harassed and assaulted cyclists. The ordinance was approved by the Berkeley City Council on January 17th.
Actual Café has had a novel idea for groundhog day — which, as it happens is today — and for every week after today. The whole point of groundhog day, after all, is that it repeats itself.
Today, some choice parking spots around Berkeley were commandeered and given over to less auto-oriented pursuits: sitting, eating, lounging and drinking being the main ones.
It’s the East Bay’s largest street festival and it’s been going since 1974. This weekend sees the return of the Solano Stroll, a family-friendly celebration which includes everything from the actual stroll — a parade featuring more than 100 participating groups — entertainers, carnival games, booths and music.
