The university has filed a response to a Berkeley College Republican and Young America’s Foundation lawsuit, which alleged that Cal officials restricted First Amendment rights.
Sharon Inkelas, linguistics professor, has been named the special faculty adviser to the chancellor on sexual violence/sexual harassment for a three-year term, beginning July 24.
The dismissal ties up the latest case in a string of sexual misconduct controversies involving Cal faculty in recent years.
The project was designed as an alternative to UC Berkeley establishing campuses in other countries as some universities, including New York University, have done in recent years.
In a letter to the campus community, Dirks said he had come to a personal decision that “the time was right for him to step aside” to “allow someone else to take up the financial and institutional challenges ahead of us.”
The investigation centers on the chancellor’s use of the university’s gym and a personal trainer.
When New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio was in town he joked around with Robert Reich and grabbed lunch with Cal Chancellor Nick Dirks among other things.
