A Berkeley man who was struck by a car while crossing The Alameda on Friday night died several hours later at Highland Hospital, authorities report.
Police were on the scene in North Berkeley to investigate a suspicious package, and The Alameda between Hopkins Street and Monterey Avenue was closed for some time.
Berkeley made some improvements, with more to come, to the intersection of The Alameda and Hopkins Street. Drivers have slowed down, making it safer for pedestrians.
