After just one year on the job, Carol Christ has significantly reduced Cal’s deficit and is moving forward with the university’s most pressing challenge: lack of student housing.
The new chancellor has inherited a university that is politically fragmented and financially distressed.
The UC regents will vote Thursday on the nomination.
In a letter to the campus community, Dirks said he had come to a personal decision that “the time was right for him to step aside” to “allow someone else to take up the financial and institutional challenges ahead of us.”
The investigation centers on the chancellor’s use of the university’s gym and a personal trainer.
When New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio was in town he joked around with Robert Reich and grabbed lunch with Cal Chancellor Nick Dirks among other things.
